Choosing a 3D Hologram for Security

30 August 2011

How can a 3D hologram ensure security? When it is incorporated into a security seal or label, it can serve as the ultimate in verification and safety. This is because the technologies for creating valid holograms are very costly, and nearly impossible to replicate in a fraudulent or artificial fashion.

How is a 3D hologram used? Everyone from government agencies to everyday business will rely on the power and assurance of a 3D hologram label or seal. Let’s consider just a single business use for them: an art gallery sells costly canvases, prints and drawings from well known and famous artists. They want to provide each buyer with documents of authenticity. What can they do? With a 3D hologram system they can use a two-part seal that can be applied to the actual work of art as well as the certification of authenticity. Alternately, they could apply a small 3D hologram to the reverse of the canvas or frame as a way of providing assurance that the work is genuine.

The reason that a 3D hologram is the main choice for those companies and organisations combating theft, counterfeited products and fraudulent documents is that they are impossible to remove without leaving behind a clear indication of the act, and they are impossible to reproduce illegally.

Consider that some holograms incorporate official logos and seals as well as words or images that appear to move when the item is repositioned or shifted. This is a special laser technology that does not exist within the standard consumer capabilities. Additionally, there are many products that incorporate a 3D hologram that cannot be seen by the human eye.

These include the ultraviolet 3D hologram seals and the covert laser read (CLR) seals as well. Consider the impervious security of a document or product that is marked with a small gold seal that glitters and shimmers under the naked eye and depicts a small bird whose wings flap as the object is tilted back and forth. While this seems like a good security seal because it would be impossible to reproduce, such a 3D hologram seal could also have a CLR feature as well. This means that once it arrives at its destination, the recipient could shine a CLR reader over the seal and find several concealed holograms that would offer total verification of the items’ validity.

Technology, as employed in a 3D hologram, can offer absolute security and assurance, and all in a small and easy to manage system.
